QED Reductio ad Absurdum

2022 QED Reductio ad Absurdum

Winemaker Notes

The 2022 QED Reductio ad Absurdum has an opaque purple color and a bouquet of ripe blackberry, huckleberry, black plum, bacon fat, smoked game, and violet. The concentrated and powerful palate is highly complex with notes of blackberry, huckleberry, smoked game, white pepper, aged cigar tobacco, garrigue, black olive, and dark chocolate. The beautifully long finish resonates with savory notes of truffle, violet, bacon fat, and black fruit. Perfectly balanced with slightly dusty tannins and lively acidity. This wine will continue to improve for the next 8-10 years and should drink well for the next 15+ years.

Technical Details

The wine had a pre-fermentation maceration of 130 hours and a post-fermentation maceration of 104 hours. The wine was punched down by hand 2 times each day during macerations and fermentation. 100% native fermentation; 100% whole clusters. All individual wine components, including free run and press fractions, were kept separate until final blending. The wine had an elevage of 18 months in French Oak. The oak profile is 30% new French oak (predominantly from Troncais and Alliers) and 70% neutral French oak. The wine achieved its sparkly brilliance from 3 judicious rackings, no fining agents were employed. The wine was very lightly filtered to capture any remaining lees.

Reviews

96 Points - Deep ruby with a glowing purple rim, the 2022 QED Reductio ad Absurdum is another masterful Syrah from Billo Naravane. The nose is bold and expressive, offering waves of blackberry compote, charred rosemary, smoked brisket, crushed pink peppercorns, and a whisper of citrus zest. On the palate, this wine strikes an impeccable harmony between its dark, brooding fruit, savory undertones, and exotic spice. Full-bodied and densely structured, it carries firm, gripping tannins that provide a commanding framework, while the acidity keeps everything fresh and energetic. As the wine unfolds, hints of graphite, wild herbs, and black olive tapenade emerge, leading to an extended, spice-tinged finish that lingers with power and grace. Highly recommended. 2025-2035.
